The YMCA Camp Cullen staff have a collective experience of over 45 years in the industry. This passionate group of mission-driven leaders is committed to providing children with a safe, impactful camping experience and giving parents peace of mind that their child is in safe hands.

Andrew ‘Mish’ Hood – Executive Director

Andrew has served as the Executive Director at YMCA Camp Cullen since November of 2014, after a camping career spanning back to 2001, beginning at YMCA Camp Silver Beach in Virginia. Scottish by birth and upbringing, summer camping began as a summer work and travel experience for Andrew, before becoming a lifelong passion, and chosen career path after graduating with a master’s degree in Business from The University of Edinburgh. The importance of the American tradition of summer camping, with all the benefits it brings for youth and families, is something that drives Andrew to ensure the highest standards for YMCA Camp Cullen, and for the camping industry as a whole, to thrive into the future. Through service to the YMCA camping movement, locally and nationally, Andrew continues fulfill his own passion for service, and for the growth of this city, state, and nation’s youth.

Kelly Agorichas – Equestrian Director

Kelly has served as Camp Cullen’s Equestrian Director since 2014. After being raised in Arizona, Kelly moved to Texas to study at Texas A&M. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in Equine Production and Industry in 2013 and is a certified riding instructor with the Certified Horsemanship Association. Witnessing the growth that campers experience through connecting with horses is what she lives for, striving to provide a safe and fun program with healthy and happy horses.

Ross Barnes – Program Director

Ross joined the Cullen team in December of 2014. He has been involved with the Y since 2006 when he first joined the summer program as a high ropes counselor at YMCA Camp Silver Beach on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He would go onto to spend a total of five summers working there as the Assistant land Director, two summers as the head boy and a summer as the program development director. Camp has meant a great deal to him, from the sense of fulfilment the job brings to the lasting relationships it builds. His service at YMCA Camp Cullen as spanned 6 years, and encompasses oversight of the Aquatics programs, as well as Art, Ropes, Target Sports, Sports and Science Programs during the summer program, and Conferences, Family Camps and Retreats outside of summer.

It has been a dream to spend the last 6 years in camping with YMCA Camp Cullen and he is very much relishing the opportunity to have a long and lasting impact on the camp and the people it serves. He would go on to spend a total of five summers working there as the Assistant Land Director, two summers as the head boy counselor and a summer as the Program Development Director.

Kelly Reffett – Director of Relational Marketing and Registrations

Kelly serves as the Director of Relational Marketing and Registrations for YMCA Camp Cullen. In this role she is responsible for all camp registrations, building relationships to increase capacity and sustainability, and volunteer recruitment and retention.

Prior to joining the YMCA, Kelly enjoyed over 30 years of successful achievements in building and directing community, governmental and non-profit organizations, most recently as Chief Development Officer with a Houston area youth organization, the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, and 11 years as State Commissioner for Serve Illinois.

She has been part of the Y since her childhood on the Y swim and dive teams, raising her family with a wide array of Y programs and now her grandchildren who are enjoying Camp Cullen and Y day camps in Texas and Illinois. Kelly cherishes her time with a large extended family, along with her two loving dogs. She is the family historian and is passionate about genealogy and traveling.

Chris Cushman – Food Service Director

Chris has more than 40 years of experience in food service, having managed operations in hospitals, colleges, schools, restaurants, and the justice system, coordinating the service of over 15,000 meals a day. Chris has a passion for cooking and trying different recipes. He thrives on delivering the absolute best dining experience for Cullen’s campers, keeping them healthy, happy, and full of energy.

Meredith Beasley – Brand Director

Meredith serves as Camp Cullen’s Brand Director, working to capture and share the wonderful and exciting camper experience with the Greater Houston community. Though new to the Camp Cullen family, Meredith is excited to combine her background in marketing & communications with her passion for the outdoors to tell the story of camp and ensure the brand experience is the best that it can be.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma, Meredith made her way back to Houston and started her career in commercial real estate. Taking the leap into a new industry with the YMCA of Greater Houston has allowed her to combine her career skills with her passions, which is nothing short of a dream!

Morgan Burns – Program Director

Morgan brings over 10 years of YMCA of Greater Houston aquatics experience to the Camp Cullen team. As Program Director, Morgan leads the aquatics, ropes courses and range sports programs. She works tirelessly to create and operate programs that teach kids about leadership, safety and of course, fun!

Her history with the YMCA of Greater Houston dates back to 2009 when she started as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Morgan’s passion for aquatics lead her to manage an impactful Safety Around Water Program and launch the Lake Houston Family YMCA Serpents Swim Team all while running the operations of the center. Joining the Camp Cullen family was the perfect next step for Morgan as it combines her career passions with her love for camping and the outdoors.
